LCF Awards its first Community Impact Grant at September 2018 Event
The La Crescent Community Foundation awarded its first Community Impact Grant to the La Crescent Food Shelf at its first Community Impact Grant award ceremony on September 20. The La Crescent Food Shelf was one of four finalists for the award. Nearly 75 area community members attended the inaugural event to hear from four area nonprofits about how they would use the grant money if awarded funds. Attendees were each given one vote to choose the winner, and the Food Shelf received the most votes.

Award finalists vying for funds included:
1.  La Crescent Community Bike Shoppe – Bike Repair Station
2.  The La Crescent Historical Society – Recording the Heritage of La Crescent
3.  Great Rivers United Way – Old Hickory Park Born Learning Trail
4.   La Crescent Food Shelf --  New Improved La Crescent Food Shelf

The La Crescent Community Foundation’s mission is to support charitable, recreational, scientific, literary, cultural or educational purposes within the La Crescent area. In the past, we have funded park improvements, youth programs, scholarships, economic development, event centers and community initiatives supporting recreation and community building. We look forward to continuing the legacy of community support with this worthwhile grant program.

"We're hoping to rally community support to make this an annual event," notes Steve Bissen, Foundation President. "There are so many great ideas and worthy causes that are yet to be realized. We hope to be a catalyst to make that happen on an annual basis. It's gifts given to the Foundation that enable great programs like this to happen, and donations can make a tremendous impact."

Bissen noted that though not all groups received funds at the event, it was an excellent opportunity for them to get in front of community members and potentially drive additional volunteerism and a donor base. The Community Impact Grant was a special grant new to the Foundation this year. La Crescent Community Foundation Welcomes Ryan Henry to its Board of Directors;
Thanks Oliver for service, Larson for Leadership

At its annual meeting on July, La Crescent resident Ryan Henry was elected as a new Director to the Foundation Board.
For the 2018-19 fiscal year, the Board also elected Steve Bissen as its President, Sean Dwyer as Vice President,  Anne Hendrickson as Secretary, and John Farnen as Treasurer, replacing outgoing board member Wayne Oliver in that interim role.  In addition, the Foundation thanked Linda Larson for serving as outgoing President. She will continue on the board's executive committee as Past President; the board also thanked Wayne Oliver for his guidance after serving three terms on the board.

We thank all of the Board members for their work and contributions. We are also always interested in hearing from community minded individuals with ideas and interest in becoming part of our board or serving on committees. Please contact us for details.
